Sandlings appear as large masses of moving sand. They are able to change their hue and color to better blend into the desert environment they call home.

A full grown sandlng is 10 feet in diameter, though there are stories of specimens twice that size being discovered.

Combat
Sandlings are territorial and they will attack any creature that enters the area they call home. They will often position themselves where the unwary will step on them, so they can use their Engulf ability. They can also sprout a coarse pseudopod, which they use to hammer opponents.

Engulf (Ex): Anyone stepping on a sandling will be engulfed unless they make a successful grapple check. If the sandling wins the grapple, the creature is engulfed, and the sandling can constrict. Only one medium-sized creature at a time can be engulfed. Engulfed creatures may use small or smaller weapons to damage the sandling from within, which has Armor Class 10. The sandling must be killed in order for the trapped creature to be released. Piercing attacks used against a sandling have a 50% chance to harm any engulfed creature. In this case, the engulfed creature takes full damage from any such attacks.

Constrict (Ex): A sandling deals 1d8+2 points of damage with a successful grapple check.

Camouflage (Ex): A Spot or Survival check (DC 17) is needed to see a motionless sandling.

Ooze: Immune to all mind-affecting effects. Immune to gaze attacks, visual effects, illusions, and other attack forms that rely on sight. Immune to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph, and stunning. Not subject to critical hits or flanking.
